Mobil has since awarded The Sanctuary its Five Star Award for the second time. With the new designation, Kiawah Island Golf Resort becomes the only property in North America to have a Mobil Five Star hotel (The Sanctuary), and a golf course rated five stars by Golf Digest (The Ocean Course). Mobil also recognized The Sanctuary's spa with its separate Five Star rating for hotel spas, making it one of only eight spas to achieve this designation. In 2007, The Sanctuary won AAA's Five Diamond Award for the first time, and retained it for 2008 and 2009. The Sanctuary joins its sister properties The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, VA, and The Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, TN, in achieving both the Five Star and Five Diamond ratings
